Spring Cleaning Favorites

Updated: Mar 21

For me spring cleaning is a ritual that signifies the transition from the cozy hibernation of winter to the freshness of spring. As the sun peeks through the windows and nature begins to bloom, there's a collective urge to refresh and rejuvenate our living spaces. From scrubbing floors to decluttering closets, every nook and cranny deserves attention, breathing new life into our homes. It also symbolizes a fresh start, a time to get organized mentally, physically, and spiritually. It's a time-honored tradition that brings a sense of satisfaction and renewal, both inside and out.

In today's post I thought I would share with you some of my favorite cleaning products. We are not sponsored by these products, they are just some of the cleaning essentials that I turn to time and time again. Some of them are things you can purchase at your local grocery store and some are easy, all natural products you can make with items you likely have on hand!

Glass and Window Cleaners

There is nothing more satisfying than a crisp, clean window with the sun shining through! My Grandma Bunny (my dad's mother) always told me that the best way to clean glass and windows to get a streak free shine is with white vinegar and newspaper - and I agree 100%!

Simply combine equal parts distilled white vinegar and water in a spray bottle, spray on glass or windows and wipe dry with a piece of newspaper. The newspaper does not leave any lint or streaks as paper towels are sometimes wont to do. If I'm not using this technique my next favorite product is Sprayway Glass cleaner (links for all products are at the end of this post). Sprayway does a great job and cleans glass and windows to a nearly streak free shine!

Cleaning Carpets and Upholstery

We have wooden floors throughout our home, but for cleaning the area rugs and upholstery my favorite product is my Bissell Little Green Machine. It is small, easy to use and does a fantastic job. I use the Bissell carpet cleaning liquid and I am always pleased with the results!

All Purpose Cleaners

My favorite all purpose cleaner is the Mrs. Meyer's lavender all purpose cleaning concentrate. I simply mix a tiny amount of it with water in a spray bottle and cleans just about everything while leaving your house smelling lovely! For degreasing I love all Dawn Dishsoap products - the dish liquid, the powerwash, and the degreaser! They will clean anything!

Other Cleaning Essentials

My other favorites for spring and anytime cleaning include microfiber cleaning/polishing cloth. These are a great alternative to paper towels. They are absorbent, lint free, and washable. I like to have a dozen or so on hand. My sister suggested color coding the cloths based on the jobs you use them for - for example blue for bathrooms, pink for kitchens, and grey for general cleaning and dusting. You can even use a dry or very slightly damp microfiber cloth to dust with and forego the polish.

Murphy's Oil Soap for hardwood floors is another favorite. Mix a tiny amount into a bucket of hot water and mop your wood floors. It does a great job cleaning and it smells wonderful!

For cleaning and polishing wooden furniture I really like the Method Good for Wood Daily Wood Cleaner and/or Scott's Liquid Gold Almond Dusting Spray. Both have a delightful almond scent. I also really love the Method Granite Cleaner in the apple scent for cleaning granite countertops. If you have granite countertops you will not regret buying this product.

For Cleaning your sink I love Barkeeper's Friend and the Mrs. Meyer's Baking Soda Sink Scrub in the Meyer Lemon scent. Both products to a good job, but Bar Keeper's friend has any other uses as well.

And finally - there is my beloved Spin Mop! This mop makes the chore of cleaning my floors fun! Even my eighteen year old daughter enjoys using the spin mop!
